Treasurers and Special Event Coordinators

Treasurers and Special Event Coordinators

What Does The Bible Say

Greetings friends in Jesus Christ.  The General Conference Church of God (Seventh Day) Southwest District, GC COG7 SWD, Treasurers and Special Event Coordinators are essential to the successful operation of the SWD.  Today we are highlighting the SWD Treasurers and SWD Special Event Coordinators.  I wonder if the Bible has any verses for Special Event Coordinators.

All About The Treasurers

The long-time SWD Treasurer is Joyce Gold.  Joyce is only 80, healthy, continually active, and drives to her Local Church or wherever she desires to go.  However, wisdom says one should always have a successor ready.  So, the SWD Board chose her daughter, Pam Strozier, to be Co-Treasurer with her.  If you desire to contact the SWD Treasurers, please do contact your SWD Area Director or SWD Superintendent and we will help you contact the SWD Treasurer.

Today, as we highlight the SWD Treasurers, I wanted to share publicly how much I appreciate the faithfulness of these two Christian women and express heartfelt gratitude for their services to the GC COG7 SWD, including all the Local Churches in the Southwest District.  During this COVID-19 pandemic they have taken extreme care and worked diligently to be sure the SWD and Local Churches who are paid through the SWD Treasurer’s Office receive the maximum available help financially.  Besides that, they work tirelessly to receive and disburse funds for the work of the GC COG7, its SWD, and the SWD Local Churches.  Please join me in saying thank you for their faithfulness in diligent service from their post.

Those of you following this blog know I usually put a few Bible verses that have some reference to the SWD Ministry or person being highlighted.  In the Bible, there is a long history of both the need for having a treasurer to care for the finances and for those doing the job.

1 Chronicles 26:20, NASB

The Levites, their relatives, had charge of the treasures of the house of God and of the treasures of the dedicated gifts.

1 Chronicles 29:7-8, NASB

and for the service for the house of God they gave 5,000 talents and 10,000 darics of gold, and 10,000 talents of silver, and 18,000 talents of brass, and 100,000 talents of iron. Whoever possessed precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the Lord, in care of Jehiel the Gershonite.

Isaiah 22:15, NASB

Thus says the Lord God of hosts,
“Come, go to this steward,
To Shebna, who is in charge of the royal household,

Ezra 1:8, NASB

and Cyrus, king of Persia, had them brought out by the hand of Mithredath the treasurer, and he counted them out to Sheshbazzar, the prince of Judah.

Acts 8:27, NASB

So he got up and went; and there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure; and he had come to Jerusalem to worship,

Romans 16:23, NASB

Gaius, host to me and to the whole church, greets you. Erastus, the city treasurer greets you, and Quartus, the brother.

All About The Special Event Coordinators

The SWD Special Event Coordinators are Dennis and Cathy O’Bañion.  The Special Event Coordinators are available to the Superintendent, District Board, and District Ministries to facilitate better choices in venue selection and all aspects of Event Planning.  Dennis and Cathy O’Bañion last facilitated and attended the Annual SWD Board and SWD Ministry Directors Leadership Meeting.  Without them, the meeting would not have had all the location and appointments that made it a great venue.  Thank you, Dennis and Cathy.  Well done.

I’ll confess I was struggling to choose some Bible texts for the Special Event Coordinator.  However, I did stumble onto another blog post.  This one was by Becky Suggs.  You can find the link for her blog at the bottom of her contribution.  Thank you, Becky Suggs.  However, apparently, we both owe a debt of gratitude to Eric Geiger who wrote on this topic earlier.  So, without further ado, I’ll let her speak for us.

10 Proverbs for Event Planners

September 21, 2016 By Becky Suggs

I recently read an article entitled “10 Proverbs for Leaders” by Eric Geiger.  In this article, Geiger highlights ten wise sayings that should impact the way leaders lead from the Book of Proverbs. He writes, “Because our faith should impact every aspect of our lives, including our leadership, we find great truth within the Scripture that should form how we live—including how leaders lead.”  As I read this article, my mind immediately paralleled this with verses specific to circumstances often faced by Christian event planners.  Because our faith should impact every aspect of our lives, including our event planning, we find great truth within the Scripture that should form how we live—including how event planners plan.

I hope you find these proverbs helpful as you go through the ins and outs of your event planning.

  • On being wise stewards:  Know well the condition of your flock, and pay attention to your herds, for wealth is not forever; not even a crown lasts for all time. – Proverbs 27:23-24
  •  On the dangers of comparison:  A tranquil heart is life to the body, but jealousy is rottenness to the bones. – Proverbs 14:30
  •  On the importance of integrity:  The one who lives with integrity will be helped, but one who distorts right and wrong will suddenly fall. – Proverbs 28:18
  • On exhibiting confidence:  For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from a snare. – Proverbs 3:26
  • On the pitfalls of pride:  When pride comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom. – Proverbs 11:2
  • On encounters with unsatisfied attendees:  A patient person shows great understanding, but a quick-tempered one promotes foolishness. – Proverbs 14:29
  • On responding to criticism:  Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. – Proverbs 27:17
  • On managing time:  The slacker craves, yet has nothing, but the diligent is fully satisfied. – Proverbs 13:4
  • On seeking God’s direction:  A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord determines his steps. – Proverbs 16:9
  • On dealing with anxious thoughts:  Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. – Proverbs 3:5

Thanks to Eric Geiger for the inspiration/format idea behind this blog post.
